Greatly Grateful,
In the past months I’ve had countless blessings- but there have also been challenges too… that’s the sheer beauty of life-
no matter how easy we want things to be, there is an inevitable fact that steel is forged in fire, and that the hardships or challenges we endure will inevitably make us stronger individuals.
That’s the truth, but often difficult to digest simply because 👉 it is proven scientifically that our DNA is hard wired to hold onto negative experiences over positive ones. This is a fact that comes from the necessity of sheer survival – as one book I read put it, it was far more important for us as humans to remember the way it felt to be chased and nearly devoured by a tiger then it was to take note of the pretty butterfly or beautiful sunset.
So, while we are no longer chased by tigers, the very nature of holding on to the negative factors in our lives is still a part of our chemical make-up. And a fact I think is essential to keep in mind when working on your own state of being.
Back to the gratefulness of this day: I, like many of you rejoice in Thanksgiving because it offers a pure time of food and family and trusted friends, reminding us of the simplicity of happiness.
There isn’t after all a person breathing that couldn’t be grateful for that fact alone- and yet, as the day comes to a close and the dishes are left in the sink many sink back to their typical outlooks of grim, letting some (more difficult) days in your life dominate you in the ways they always will- with challenges and setbacks that can frustrate and break the spirit.
It is my friends a mental practice like no other to be grateful everyday. To have your mental Thanksgiving daily and to practice the type of problem solving positive mental attitude your goals in life and your loved ones deserve.
So be grateful today. And be mindful daily of the greatness of each day- challenges and victories alike.
